Before you begin to read my journal below... you have to
understand - I'm not a geek, and I'm not gonna be a geek. I
just happen to like inventions, and I believe if we
are all
willing to try out new stuff, our fellow engineers will have
more opportunities to fulfill our duty for the benefit
of
humanity...
Got some extras to sell off? Follow the Marketplace link, and
you will learn how to open an online store for free and take credit card
payment from your orders in real time.
If you have seen a Yahoo Store before, this works more or less the
same, but while Yahoo
Store charges $100 or more a month, this service
is entirely free. The Shopping Cart Software featured
in the link of course is written by me =), but I've given the
source code to a company, who, in exchange, provides the
hosting service. I also have written some other
freeware/shareware .. if you are interested, let me know and I'll post
more links.
Compu Workshop will show you my new toy - Agenda VR3. It's a
pure Linux (Go Tux
Go!) PDA. Currently it's not yet available in the
consumer market, but
I have a developer version, which is cool. The whole OS is upgradable as
you wish.

Ok..I burned my linux PDA while doing a boot prom
upgrade..hahaha..O well..it wasn't anyone's fault...the
rechargable NiMH AAA battery doesn't have enough voltage to
finish the flashing...but...that doesn't stop me from exploring
my handy toys.
So, I bought a new PDA. It's a Handspring Platinum Visor + Visorphone combo,
which is running the Palm 3.5.2 OS and it allows me to connect
voice/data through my GSM sim card. Cool..but much
more affordable than the Treo package! I've
been able to surf internet, receive sms, send fax and make
voice calls through the Visorphone. I'd also tried making
internet
connectivity via irDA (infra red) link to the built-in
wireless modem
of my Ericsson
T39 at 56K. So far I'm very impressed although 8MB memory
is not enough. I've also got this little guy to support
Big5 Chinese characters and have a free Chinese bible on
it.
My next goal is to make downloading scanned images from my HP Capshare wireless
handheld scanner 920 possible so I can emulate a real fax
operation. Right now the Palm OS is not taking TIFF
file transfer via irDA too well.
Jan 31, 03 (Chinese New Year Coming La)
Erm.. I know it seems like I only update my web page once in a
year haha.. well...I have a lot to say actually, but I just
don't have time to update. Well...guess what? I bought a new
palm-like handheld before Christmas. It is great! It's the
cheapest one in the market, but it works great (ok..I heard many
ppl complain that the high resolution screen is a garbage to
play games, but hey..I can't play games anyways due to
nightmares,
so I don't really
care). Right, it's the Sony
SL-10. It only has 8MB ram, but
you can get a good priced memory stick anyways, and you can
install programs on the memory stick and use MSMount (free) to
load it. Regarding my lovely HP Capshare 920 handheld wireless
scanner, guess what, I finally figure out how to beam the TIFF
file to my palm and send it as an attachment of email, so you
can virtually have a "fax" machine on your palm. Now, I'm
waiting for my bluetooth memory stick (my New Year present from
HK) so I can use
bluetooth
to get online with my T39 rather than infraRed which is good
but not yet perfect. Indeed, palm is great, and I installed
Chinese viewer on it, and I can put the whole Chinese NIV
bible there. |
